I put the teaser trailer into premiere elements so i could have a more detailed look at it’s structure.
At the very beginning the trailer fades from black into the first screen – the production company – and then fades out, it fades into the first shot but then doesn’t use a transition and the next 3 edits are just cuts with no use of transitions – you can see this is the image below (the section which the red line is covering it) – it then fades to and from black when the next ‘title screen’ appears.
As I’ve gone through and looked at the trailer more carefully on elements I’ve noticed some other things that I can use or learn from. For example: there is a shot in the beginning sequence just before the second ‘title screen’ it’s quite dark, the girl is in bed looking up and on the beam on the ceiling a bug like creature crawls across then the scene cuts to blackand the ‘title screen’ fades in. I think that this could’ve looked better if as the creature crawled across the frame and got bigger, the screen could’ve faded to black with it, it would’ve looked a lot smoother than a quick cut.
Something I thought more about as I was looking through the trailer were the ‘title screens’ and what was I going to do fro my ‘title screens’? I really like the idea of this bleeding figure slowly spreading across the screen, it’s effective and again kind of creepy, it would definitely be possible to do this maybe using some kind of paper or other material, water and colouring, I think it could look quite effective.
Another element I noticed which I think will be useful in my trailer is that there is a shot where the figure of the girl is walking and the background is black and then the background slowly fades in. I like this and am going to attempt to use it in my trailer, i think it looks quite effective and makes it seem more creepy and fantasy like.
Wow, you have such a detailed blog!! How did you get the trailers into premiere like that? xx
